LOCATION
Budapest is the largest city and the capital of Hungary. It is a place with rich
historical past and with several scientific, economical, artistic events in the heart of Middle Europe. Budapest
became one large city in 1873 after the unification of three towns: Buda and Óbuda on the west bank and Pest on
the east bank of the Danube River. Buda was built upon hills, while Pest lies on lowlands.
About 2000 years ago the Romans called this settlement Aquincum, which meant "city of waters". The reason for this
might be the fact that there were and still there are lots of water springs and thermal water baths in this region.
Today Budapest is a busy metropolis with a population of 2 million people. The city is rich in historical and cultural
monuments, works of art and natural beauties.
Budapest is often cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest's extensive World Heritage Site includes both banks
of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrassy Avenue, Heroes' Square and the Millennium Underground Railway, the second-oldest
metro line in the world. It has around 80 geothermal springs, the world's largest thermal water cave system, second largest synagogue,
and third largest Parliament building. The city attracts about 4.4 million tourists per year, making it the 25th most popular city
in the world, and the 6th in Europe.
The weather in Budapest is usually warm with a lot of sunshine in the end of May.
The congress will be organized at Hotel Helia. This conference hotel with spa and wellness complex is located on the bank of the Danube,
opposite to Margaret Island, and 15 minutes’ walk from the historical city center. The Hotel is 26 km far from Liszt Ferenc Airport,
9 km from the Eastern Railway Station.
Individual excursions are available from here to the Heroes Square, Museums, Vajdahunyad Castle and Zoo by trolleybus 75
(the bus station is in front of the hotel), and to the city center and shopping centers by underground (metro) line 3
(Dózsa György út metro station is 8 minutes walk from the Hotel). The Parliament is 30 minutes on foot from the Hotel
along the bank of the Danube, and the Margaret Island can be reached in 30 minutes from the Hotel (on foot and by tram line
4,6 or by metro line 3 and bus line 26 from the Western Railway station).
